We have written plenty about ReeToxA in the past year or so. The Australian artist has been very productive, with a plethora of albums and singles all being released to the world. We previously wrote about the long LP ‘Soliloquy’, which provides a wealth of material for anyone willing to dip into the project’s peculiar universe. Yet, Jason McKee (the human behind the project) is not done yet, with ‘Double A Side 2 (Akaroa / Erica And The Stars)’ being his latest record to see the light of day.
In it, we found two brand new songs, ‘Akaroa’ and ‘Erica and the Strats’. The two pieces stem from a very complex storyline, involving a mental health crisis, temporary schizophrenia, and the willingness to remember a tragic miscarriage during a past marriage. In a way, we can observe McKee at his most fragile, as he opens up to the listener with honesty and authenticity.
Reiterating the monumental effort put in by McKee in order to get his life (and music) in order, we are told: “‘Akaroa’ and ‘Erica and the Strats’ are beautiful intelligent songs that come from two very hard and hopeless times in Jason’s life. To get himself back together to become a successful artist with soon to be three albums released… is a huge achievement.” We have only respect for ReeToxA’s meaningful outlook on life. Someone out there will relate to the record!
