The keen reader will gladly remember Stefanie Michaela from a feature we published earlier this year, celebrating ‘Let Me See The Real You’ as “Stefanie at her boldest, delivering catchy and anthemic lyricism with unmatched confidence.” We stand by our words: in fact, such a statement could very well summarise the American songstress’ artistry as a whole, as she slowly builds and develops an epic pop universe, one filled with radio-ready anthems and evocative imagery.
Today, Michaela returns with ‘Caffeine’, a piece that celebrates vulnerability and acceptance, motivating listeners to let go and embrace the unknown. It’s a rather powerful message, especially during such complex times. Stefanie’s heightened lyricism is here framed into a wonderfully electrifying pop production, still managing to retain an understated emotional character.
Impressed by the project, we caught up with Michaela to learn more about the single and her overall artistry… Interview below!
Hey Stefanie, thanks for chatting with us! ‘Carefree’ is your latest single, a piece that picks up the torch from ‘Let Me See The Real You’, unveiled earlier this year. The kinetic charge is the same, but the new track feels a tad more emotional. What does the song mean to you?
‘Carefree’ is about letting go of the weight we carry every day and choosing to enjoy the moment. Life can get so busy that we forget to slow down, have fun, and appreciate what’s right in front of us. After releasing ‘Let Me See the Real You’, which was about authenticity, ‘Carefree’ felt like the natural next chapter. I hope listeners walk away feeling lighter, happier, and inspired to embrace life with a more carefree spirit.

Are you proud of how the record turned out? I’d love to know more about your creative process. Do you prefer working alone or with others?
I’m incredibly proud of how the record turned out. I enjoy collaborating with Nitanee Paris and Mark Dorflinger, and together we refined the song until it felt honest and uplifting. My creative process starts with the music. Once I hear the chords and beat, I begin to feel the emotion and vibe the song is trying to portray. That emotional connection inspires the melody, and from there the lyrics naturally take shape.
Let’s dive deeper into the human behind Stefanie Michaela. Was there anyone or anything pivotal to your music education? What motivated you to pick up music so boldly?
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I attended Idyllwild Arts Academy and later studied at the Boston Conservatory, where I built my foundation in musical theatre and vocal performance. Music’s ability to connect people continues to inspire me every time I write.
The reader might not know this, but alongside being a talented artist and gifted singer, you have also spent the past few years building a family. Has motherhood changed your approach/perspective on music and songwriting?
Becoming a mother has shaped me in ways I never imagined. Raising five children has taught me patience, resilience, and gratitude. I’m always trying to create relatable songs that people can see themselves in. My hope is that my music inspires others and reminds them that having another creative outlet can truly make a difference.
Widening the question, are there any specific lyrical themes you find yourself getting back to over and over? In general, would you say that you write from an introspective point of view, or more of an observant, outward one?
I write from a personal place, but my goal is always to make my songs relatable. I return to themes of hope, authenticity, resilience, love, and personal growth. If someone finishes one of my songs feeling understood or inspired, I’ve accomplished what I set out to do.

Is there a particular artist that has inspired you throughout your creative journey? What are you listening to in your free time?
Toni Braxton inspires me with the depth and emotion she brings to every performance. Lionel Richie has an incredible gift for storytelling, and I admire Kelly Clarkson for her authenticity. I love listening to ’90s R&B love songs because they make me appreciate the little things in life and leave me feeling inspired.
Do you find it easy to navigate the modern music industry?
It’s not easy, but I’ve learned you have to become a student of every aspect of the industry. My advice is to learn songwriting, publishing, distribution, marketing, branding, social media, and the business side of music. No one will care about your career as much as you do, so it’s important to advocate for yourself while continuing to learn and grow.
What’s next for Stefanie Michaela? Can we expect an EP or an album at some point?
I want to keep writing and releasing inspirational singles that connect with people and make a positive difference in their lives. As I continue on that journey, I’ll see where it leads. Maybe that becomes another EP or album down the road, but for now, my focus is creating meaningful music that inspires people.
