Olga Prepis Unveils Brooding EP ‘if i was someone else’

Tracks such as ‘make me drown’ exude a heightened cinematic factor, moving with gloomy elegance and melancholic allure towards an epic outro.

Olga Prepis’ catalogue might be relatively short, yet it’s certainly impactful and incredibly well produced. Not a surprise, as Prepis boasts world-class education at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Active in the music industry as a performer and overall creative, the talented songstress enjoys a great deal of vocal expertise, drenching her songs in shiny, near-perfect toplines as well as impactful and relatable songwriting. What more could you wish for?

‘if i was someone else’ is the perfect evidence of that. Marking Olga’s latest EP, the record collects four tracks that signal a stunning year for the New York-based artist. Of Greek-Cypriot heritage, Prepis likes to mix English and Greek without any hesitation, making for a cross-cultural EP that feels hypnotic and brooding, as well as deeply evocative. Tracks such as ‘make me drown’ exude a heightened cinematic factor, moving with gloomy elegance and melancholic allure towards an epic outro.

From a sonic perspective, things are rather malleable. While Prepis bathes in alt-poop territories, the occasional electronica and soundtrack references are rather well-received, adding tons of personality and uniqueness to an already strong tracklist. ‘in your bed’ slowly reveals EDM elements, while ‘never changing?’ develops into a more ethereal, raw jewel.
