The keen reader will gladly remember Jerry Jean from an article we published last summer, where we celebrated ‘Keep Breathing’ as “drenched in nostalgic, soulful character and catchy, evocative pop melodies”. In truth, such a statement happily applies to Jean’s wider catalogue, as he champions a rather approachable aural flair and a heartwarming, observant lyrical perspective. Of Taiwanese-American heritage and based in New York City, Jerry has recently unveiled one of his biggest releases to date: ‘For You, For Always’.
In it, listeners are confronted with eleven malleable and elegant offerings, tracks that oscillate between evocative and introspective moments and more uplifting and electrifying grooves. What more could you wish for? ‘For You, For Always’ is a wonderful record, an easy-listening jewel that provides a positive, warm respite from the negativity of today’s world.
Delving deeper into the meaningful ethos that propels the new album, Jean explains: “‘For You, For Always’ spans a decade of songwriting and recording during the years my wife and I began raising a family in NYC. It is about anchoring into the present moment, letting go of the chase, and arriving home. It’s a companion album sequenced intentionally after releasing the songs individually over the years, and it truly encapsulates the record I’ve long wanted to make along with the ethos I’ve tried to live by.”
