The keen reader will gladly remember The Amanda Emblem Experiment from a feature we published in late ‘25, celebrating ‘The Wood’ as “pure escapism, yet not the aural kind – the lyrical kind”, a statement that well summarises the project’s unconventional allure and leftfield flair. In fact, the record performed rather well on streaming services, which might be a surprise to some, given its nostalgic and acoustic roots. Yet, it perfectly makes sense when considering the heightened songwriting talent enjoyed by Amanda Emblem.
Recently, the Australian hero decided to give more of a focused release to a couple of tracks from the aforementioned album, ‘Lazy Sunday Afternoon’ and ‘Calm Seas’. Now wrapped into a three-track EP that includes the brand new offering ‘Old Romantic’, the two songs have been remixed to a shorter, more concentrated format, keeping all the meat on the bone and removing unnecessary sections.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels ‘Lazy Sunday’, Amanda explains: “Time has a good way of showing you which tracks deserve attention. My followers love ‘Lazy Sunday Afternoon’ and ‘Calm Seas’ from the album. It’s hard to argue with the streaming numbers. But these two tracks were super long by today’s standards, and while they work perfectly as part of an album that celebrates space and sonic journey, and seeing how they are outperforming the recent single, we decided that they deserved attention”.
