It’s been quite the year so far for Dom Jones. Gearing up for an upcoming EP, ‘2.0’, the Los Angeles-based creative has so far unveiled three like-minded singles, starting in February with ‘Blacker Berry’, then following up with May’s ‘Gimme The Night’, and ultimately returning with a remixed version of that very same single. Eric Fells has jumped on production duties, transforming ‘Gimme The Night’ into a high-octane, energetic cut, a record that transports Jones’ inspired artistry in a different direction, even just for a moment.
Dom Jones seems to have a gift for choosing the right collaborator. The original version of ‘Gimme The Night’ features the notable expertise of Precision Productions, aka Kasey Phillips. In fact, the artistic partnership between Jones and Phillips has been ongoing for quite some time, with the pair having penned more than 100 songs to date. Some of them will be unveiled in the upcoming EP.
Delving deeper into the meaningful ethos that propels the single, we are told: “a record about growth, self-definition, and allowing space for contradiction… a reflection of the openness and possibility that comes with stepping into the unknown”. We appreciate the nuanced lyricism and empowering allure that make ‘Gimme The Night’ such an empowering offering. The balance between its kinetic and elegant sides is masterfully done, resulting in an offering that’s dance-inducing and euphoric, yet also lush and cathartic.
