Hollow Shift Unveil Brooding EP ‘War’

Hollow Shift are back with another gloomy and haunting record, the three-track EP ‘War’. An observant, brooding reaction to a world that’s quietly falling apart.

It’s been a particularly productive year for Jessica Bell and Alexander Zamparas. Going by the moniker Hollow Shift, the Greece-based duo have been releasing an impressive number of singles, and even an EP. Clearly, the inspiration has not subsided yet. We wonder why? Perhaps the state of our reality offers many opportunities for introspection and creative catharsis… well, ‘War’ particularly fits this hypothesis, a release that marks Hollow Shift’s latest record.

Packed with three like-minded tracks, ‘War’ feels decisively darker and electronic than some of the pair’s previous episodes. That means that ‘War’ is a tad less darkwave and a little more melancholic alt-pop. The production is expansive, evocative and drenched in cinematic soundscapes. Bell’s vocals rise to the challenge with no hesitation, embracing their inner doom aura and dreamy gloominess. ‘Nothing Dies Quietly’ proves to be a bit of an exception to the rule, sporting a heavily kinetic and haunting character.

As is often the case for Hollow Shift, the nuanced and striking lyricism behind their songs particularly comes alive in the pair’s observant, dooming imagery. As they look at our failing world, they feel compelled to help steer it in the right direction within the realms of the artistic medium. As we are told: “The release reflects on the human cost of division, the persistence of hope amid turmoil, and the resilience required to endure both personal and collective struggles. ‘War’ captures the tension between destruction and survival.”
