Jacob Barrett Returns with Meaningful and Eclectic Gem ‘Here I Go Again’

Gearing up for an upcoming EP, American artist Jacob Barrett unveils his first single of the year, the personal and eclectic piece ‘Here I Go Again’.

‘Here I Go Again’ marks our first encounter with San Francisco-based creative Jacob Barrett, and we are quite impressed by what we hear in it. The single is Barrett’s latest effort, a brand new chapter in a journey that will eventually result in an EP. There are a few layers worth examining, one being the meaningful and personal storytelling that informs the song; struggling with a chronic illness, Jacob opens up about the emotional toll of such a condition. He’s quite honest and authentic about it, a feature that makes the listening experience special and even relatable.

There’s a certain vulnerability in ‘Here I Go Again’, with the American artist not hiding behind a bold facade or mainstream formulas. Instead, he ventures in search of fragility and truth. After all, isn’t that what music and creative practice are about? The record’s production provides an equally potent counterpoint to an already hard-hitting song, with orchestral elements layered on top of an indie-pop arrangement. That’s what makes the piece so eclectic and peculiar.

Describing how he feels behind the track, Barrett explains: “a hooky song that you feel really good listening to”. We agree with the sentiment, and that’s perhaps one of the song’s strong points: despite the heavy nature of the lyrical matter, the end result is more vibrant and luscious than one might think. There’s a lot more to come, stay tuned!
