2026 is about to be a glorious year for Caitlin Starr. We discovered her only recently, but she appears to have already attracted a fair amount of attention to her project. Of course, such potent artistry does not come out of nowhere. Having navigated NYC’s underground scene for the past few years, Starr has been spotted playing bass for Suzy Clue, among others, alongside having released a debut EP just over a year ago, ‘Hold On Tight’.
A talented guitarist and singer-songwriter, Caitlin expresses herself through an unapologetic stream of gritty 90s rock and hints of chaotic punk, a sonic cocktail that particularly resonates with her overall alternative image. ‘Will u b My Girlfriend’ is the perfect evidence of that, a single that not only catapults Caitlin Starr into 2026, but that also pays a homage to Pride Month through a loud and evocative sapphic anthem. As we are told: “The track lives in the tension between desire and hesitation. It’s direct, funny, anxious, romantic, and built to hit both as a rock song and as a generational sapphic anthem”.
Weaving a gloomy rock aesthetics into Queer lyricism and explosive charisma, Caitlin Starr has struck aural gold, fully embracing the grunge revival with a certain emo allure. Only 25 years old, Starr looks set for a promising future. ‘Will u b My Girlfriend’ ships with a like-minded music video, one that perfectly illustrates what the song stands for.
