A bold and uplifting anthem, ‘Recycle Me’ marks the latest effort by Parisian creative HOLY TRIGGER. Teaming up with producer ninety2, she fiercely navigates towards kinetic territories and electro-pop influences, delivering a record that feels cryptic and unconventional, but also catchy and dance-inducing. There’s a fine balance between HOLY TRIGGER’s haunting and otherworldly vocals and the track’s loud, expansive arrangement, even hinting at a little aural nostalgia.
‘Recycle Me’ particularly comes into its own during the second half, as it shifts into a higher electro gear, one that feels hypnotic and mesmerising, but also distorted and rebellious. What more could you wish for? The record emerges from the visionary mind of creative Ira Rokka, here featuring in her musical alter-ego.
Celebrating the project’s holistic allure, ‘Recycle Me’ finds additional meaning in its own artwork, an iconic shot of HOLY TRIGGER herself as “an ironic gesture of reclaiming the marks of past trauma, divinising them into a new identity”, as we are told. This is why we appreciate her artistry so much: while this is primarily a music endeavour, it’s also a visual and philosophical one, as Rokka draws from her roots as a multimedia artist and creative director to explore the “tension between Eros and Thanatos.”
