RIOT SON Embraces Appalachian Gloom in Latest EP ‘My Love Is A Promise That I Cant Keep’

Wrapped in ‘Appalachian Gloom’, ‘My Love Is A Promise That I Cant Keep’ reveals itself as a brooding, introspective EP, the latest work by American creative RIOT SON.

Described as ‘Appalachian Gloom’, ‘My Love Is A Promise That I Cant Keep’ marks the latest EP by North Carolina-based creative RIOT SON. Featuring three vibrant and emotive pieces, the record weaves darkwave and distant goth influences into a spacious, sombre package, one that’s relatively fast-tempo and electrifying, but also hypnotic and gritty. Hints of post-punk and emo allure are also a constant, something that should also be credited to German producer Manget$u, working with RIOT SON on the record.

From a lyrical standpoint, ‘My Love Is A Promise That I Cant Keep’ is inherently personal and introspective. It’s the sort of record where the artist makes it a point to confront inner demons and breakthrough reckonings, a stream of relatable and evocative imagery that will no doubt connect with a brooding audience. One could describe it as escapism, and, judging by the overall gloom and doom that surround the EP, we’d say it could serve as a powerful cathartic release for dealing with our increasingly complex reality.

Delving deeper into his alternative-coded, dark sonic identity, RIOT SON explains:“I aim for a performance that moves from cold, distant verses to an emotionally desperate, longing crescendo. This technique allowed me to capture the ‘Appalachian Gloom’ that defines my work, a sound that feels like a wall of echo bouncing off castle walls shrouded in mountain fog.”
