David McKnight Shares Evocative Pop Gem ‘Love’

‘Love’ signals a bit of an anomaly in McKnight’s catalogue. The record is especially evocative and pop-leaning, something that carries the project forward in terms of scope and influences.

It’s been a very busy year for David McKnight. Hailing from Houston, Texas, the talented troubadour has so far released four singles, all exploring the eclectic territory behind mainstream pop melodism and hard-hitting contemporary hip-hop. The track that has caught our attention is ‘Love’, which signals a bit of an anomaly in McKnight’s catalogue so far. You see, the record is especially evocative and pop-leaning, something that carries the project forward in terms of scope and influences.

Built on a fast-paced dark-pop production, ‘Love’ sees David teaming up with frequent collaborator Prod Drac, here landing his sonic skills to McKnight’s cause. Overall, the record doesn’t seek to reinvent a particular formula, instead finding a fertile refuge in modern and slightly alternative pop bays, perhaps hinting at darkwave here and there. The aural paste is sort of moody and industrial at times, well-balanced with McKnight’s bright vocals.

Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the single, McKnight explains: “The song is about my wife… love is the most precious thing in life”. The premise behind the record is rather simple, yet very meaningful and purposeful. We suspect a lot of folks out there will relate to David’s nuanced songwriting; he’s very keen on describing human emotions with honesty and authenticity, something that will certainly pay off in the end.
