DownTown Mystic Unveil New EP ‘On E Street (Remix)’

DownTown Mystic’ latest EP sees the project teaming up with Springsteen’s trusted musicians Max Weinberg and Gerry Tallent.

The keen reader might remember American rock outfit DownTown Mystic from a feature we published just a few months ago, praising ‘Mystic Highway’ as “a stream of rock’n’roll goodness embodying a rather loyal and authentic old-school allure”. On that occasion, we also learned that the project is one of the top indie sync-licenced artists, with music in over 250 TV shows & films. This is partly possible thanks to a partnership with Los Angeles-based Sha-La Music Publishing and distribution by The Orchard/Sony Music.

It’s easy to see why everyone wants to sync DownTown Mystic’s records: they sound really good! Behind the group, we find musician and songwriter Robert Allen, driving the endeavour forward with a firm pulse on pop-leaning melodism and classic rock’n’roll charisma. In particular, Allen has always held a strong admiration for American rock hero Bruce Springsteen, so much so that over the years, he was able to collaborate with E Street Band icons Max Weinberg and Gerry Tallent. ‘On E Street (Remix)’ celebrates exactly that.

Marking DownTown Mystic’s latest release, the EP collects older releases, here remixed for the occasion. Boasting a polished new aural livery, we are taken into the likes of ‘And You Know Why’, ‘Way To Know’, ‘Hard Enough’, and ‘Sometimes Wrong’, plus a couple of TV mixes (instrumental and backing vocals). Remembering what it was like to play with Weinberg and Tallent, Allern explains: “I was trying to develop as a solo artist when we made these recordings. The experience of playing with Max & Garry changed everything for me.”
