Mike Lotito Shares Latest Single ‘Pastime’

‘Pastime’ marks the latest effort by Austin-based indie hero Mike Lotito, here writing about the constant fight between reality and dreams.

The listening experience behind ‘Pastime’ is rather dualistic: on one side, you’ve got your uplifting indie matter, quite fuzzy and vibrant, sporting hints of lo-fi allure and alt-coded guitars. On the other side, one must reckon with Mike Lotito’s meaningful, introspective songwriting. Using music as a cathartic tool to interpret a complicated and tiring reality, the American creative seeks to pen material that’s relatable and simple, yet never obvious or chiché. ‘Pastime’ is certainly successful at that.

Reiterating the longing for a less routine-focused and more free-spirited existence, Mike is adamant about feeling such constant tension, describing the ever-lasting fight between the ordinary and the extraordinary. Yet, even within imaginative and dreamy lyricism, ‘Pastime’ maintains strong roots in reality with a gritty, chaotic sound that doesn’t leave a lot of room for anything hazy. Hailing from Austin, Lotito has been working on the track with his brothers, Joe and Rob, resulting in a strong collaborative effort.

Delving deeper into ‘Pastime’, Lotito explains: “It reflects on the feeling of being worn down by routine and drifting into daydreams about simpler, more self-directed moments. Whether it’s working with your hands, making music, or just having more control over your time, the song captures that pull toward something that feels lighter and more natural. It’s less about a specific moment and more about a familiar tension between structure and freedom.”
