The Lemon Grove Unveils Introspective Dark Pop Cut ‘Muscles & Bones’

The Lemon Grove appear to be channelling their deep understanding of human nature into their music. ‘Muscles & Bones’ follows such an ethos, too.

The Lemon Grove are rather adamant about what they stand for. A quick glance at their Instagram bio reveals a certainly prophetic tagline, “music for your nervous system, heartache in sugarcoat”. It’s the perfect description for a project that likes to explore the brooding and liminal space between introspection and the subconscious, blending meaningful and evocative storytelling with vivid dark-pop production. That’s at least the case with ‘Muscles & Bones’, the project’s latest effort. Elsewhere in their catalogue, influences tend to be way more eclectic, a further sign of the Finnish duo’s creative freedom.

Known by day as real-life psychologists, The Lemon Grove appear to be channelling their understanding of human nature into their music. ‘Muscles & Bones’ follows such an ethos too, embracing philosophical storytelling around identity and perception and wrapping it all in enigmatic, visionary songwriting. From a sonic standpoint, the piece feels gloomy and melancholic, but also quite anthemic and mainstream-leaning. Blissful and hypnotic female vocals accompany listeners into a peculiar aural experience.

Delving deeper into ‘Muscles & Bones’, The Lemon Grove explain: “With thought-provoking lyrics that delve into themes of duality and inner conflict, each track unfolds like a deeply personal journey. The Lemon Grove invites listeners to embark on a sonic exploration that transcends boundaries of time and space, offering a glimpse into the intricacies of human emotion.” As one might expect, The Lemon Grove often express themselves through internal monologues and streams of consciousness.
