Dopamine Fix Return with a Gloomy, Dystopian Piece About the AI Fallout

Some might call ‘REAL’ a timely and observant release. Others might instead regard it as science fiction. However you look at it, there’s no doubt about the record’s contemporary resonance and controversial character.

Some might call ‘REAL’ a timely and observant release. Others might instead regard it as science fiction. However you look at it, there’s no doubt about the record’s contemporary resonance and controversial character. Penned by Irish duo Dopamine Fix, the song serves as the project’s sophomore effort, following up on ‘Welcome To The Sharktank’. The two tracks are inherently related, both delving into the fallout of AI deregulation, political blindness, and overall cultural decadence. In that sense, ‘REAL’ paints a strikingly depressive picture of what a potential future might look like.

‘REAL’ is the keyword here. As humanity descends into a highly digitised reality, how will we know whether the entity you are talking to is real? Such a question opens a variety of gloomy scenarios. Almost playfully, the single is wrapped with a nostalgic 80s and post-punk-leaning production, boasting an aural charge that’s melodic, yet hard-hitting and dark. Dopamine Fix are Aidan Macnamara (Voice, Guitars) and Eoin Devereux (Synths).

Reiterating their fringe and prophetic messaging, Dopamine Fix explain: “‘REAL’ documents the internal state of this condition: emotional numbness, isolation, the sense of watching life through glass. Connection persists, but without proof. Presence remains, but without confirmation. If this message resonates, you are not alone. If it doesn’t, that may already be the point”. Such a doomsday narrative might feel over the top to some, yet, knowing what we know about technology and the current trends in geopolitics, Dopamine Fix’s visionary songwriting doesn’t feel that out there anymore.
