The keen reader might remember American songstress Noella Rain from a feature we published earlier this year, praising ‘Some Stories’ as “a slice of pure, unfiltered orchestral goodness drenched in lush vocals and smooth, ballad-flavoured melodies”. We stand by our words: Noella’s vocals are particularly elegant and charming, a full-bodied tone with a great deal of malleability and range. Recently, Rain has returned with her latest effort, ‘Running Dry’, a heartwarming, poignant acoustic piece that confirms our suspicions about the project…
Suspicions were indeed confirmed. Noella Rain has showcased her artistic prowess once again, crowning herself as a committed, inspired songwriter. ‘Running Dry’ is particularly relevant from that perspective, as it’s written from a truly personal point of view. As Rain explains: “I wrote this song after a past friend of mine suddenly cut me out of her life completely. The song poured out of my heart as I was crying in my old studio apartment in Boston’s Backbay, my freshman year at Berklee College of Music.”
Steeped in honesty and vulnerability, ‘Running Dry’ develops on a functional arrangement; never overpowering Rain’s powerful vocals. Jeff Gruber from Blue House Productions is on production duties, marking a continuous collaborative effort between the two. The single anticipates Rain’s forthcoming album, ‘Land of the Night’.
