Yo Pays Homage to Beloved Grandmother in Upcoming Evocative Album

A meaningful, purposeful record, ‘Carmina Alegría’ comes from a place of deep introspection and nostalgia. An ethereal, cinematic album, the LP is set to be released this very same Friday (21st). We’ll look into the story behind it all shortly, but for now, it’s worth noting one of Yo’s recently released singles, ‘Coágulo de un instante’, a luscious and hypnotic appetiser for what’s to come. Anyway, let’s hold it there a second: Yo hails from Valencia, and he can be considered a holistic artist, a truly committee creative, almost a philosopher, if you will.

Known by day as David G. Borrero, the Spanish artist infuses his music with a wealth of ethereal energy and sombre introspection, all presented through an elegantly eclectic lens. ‘Coágulo de un instante’ exposes the project’s most ambient-driven side, a slice of hazy soundscapes and angelic vocal harmonies that are incredibly evocative and poignant. Honestly, it’s a piece we can get lost in. It’s pure, unfiltered escapism. But with purpose.

Delving deeper into the ethos behind the upcoming album, Yo explains: “My grandmother always told how, when she was young, she sang so well that ‘the people from the radio’ wanted to make her a star. They even had her stage name ready: Carmina Alegría. Life had other plans, and my grandmother always kept ‘what could have been’… until today. Because today, Carmina Alegría has her record.”
