Often, it’s hard to find the right words to describe good music. I feel like adjectives don’t quite translate the euphoric, triumphal feeling of having discovered a really talented artist. Perhaps it’s a byproduct of the crowded cultural landscape around us; attention is hard to come by, and no one is willing to take anything seriously anymore… as I shuffle through submissions, I perceive an eerie sense of uniformity.
YET, NOT THIS TIME. This time around, I found an incredibly gifted human being, a keen, committed songstress crafting material that speaks to the listener on a deeper level. Her name is Meredith Adelaide, and ‘What Do I Know’ is the wondrous, inspiring art she’s making. The record’s nocturne and acoustic arrangement can be beautifully deceptive: as the song develops, Adelaide’s vocals dramatically grow in intensity, eventually exploding into cinematic euphoria and a feverish anthemic charge.
Meredith Adelaide’s heightened lyrical introspection wraps listeners into tenderness and understanding, sparking a cathartic aural journey that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. That’s one of the most beautiful songs I have heard this year, 100%. Ours is a gloomy, ungrateful reality; when something beautiful happens, it would be a good idea to scream it from the rooftops.
