The keen reader might remember American outfit Bungalow Collect, a fierce and rowdy group carrying the torch of what they dub as Disco Rap. Simply, it’s an endless stream of good vibes. Part dance-inducing and part meaningful, such a quirky and unique formula sees the talented project threading the line between hip-hop and disco-funk with charismatic allure, landing on a result that’s both euphoric and hypnotic; or, as we previously described it, “both familiar and innovative”.
Crowning a wonderful and productive year, Bungalow Collect has now unveiled their latest album ‘Disco Rap Saved Me Again’, a collection of bright, energetic tracks enriched by the American band’s luscious, evocative vocals. Opener ‘Dynamo’ offers hints of traditional disco-funk and Vice City coolness, followed up by the Daft Punk-esque ethos of ‘It Takes 2’. Whichever way you look at it, there’s no denying that ‘Disco Rap Saved Me Again’ is deeply elegant and sunny, a slice of limitless fun in an otherwise chaotic reality.
Speaking about their Disco Rap identity, Bungalow Collect explains: “We want people to remember us as the group that ushered in a new genre—‘disco rap.’ It’s the first genre that truly captures the essence of disco, with its freedom and fun, while blending it with the serious and truthful tones of rap. That’s the legacy we want to leave behind.”
