An expansive and rich pop album, ‘Contrasting Notes’ showcases Fredrik Norlindh’s glorious foray into the international pop landscape. Building on his flamboyant, bold artistry, the Swedish songwriter and producer presents a body of work that constantly oscillates between electronic pop euphoria and orchestral elegance, a formula that also benefits from a great deal of theatrical flair. That’s on brand for Norlindh; winner of ‘Best Contemporary Instrumental’ at the Intercontinental Music Awards 2025, the Swedish hero enjoys writing material that’s majestic and cinematic, drawing from a vast variety of sources and inspiration.
We feel as though that’s a refreshing ethos. Fredrik doesn’t limit himself to a specific corner of the music industry, instead finding a heartwarming refuge in a kaleidoscopic, grand aural livery. ‘Contrasting Notes’ is the perfect evidence of that: tunes such as ‘Tell The Police’ weave lyrical lusciousness and instrumental grandeur, making for an intense, catchy and memorable listening experience. Haunting and melancholic pieces such as ‘Graphic Chills’ co-exist peacefully with more ethereal, tender episodes, the likes of ‘Can’t You See Me’.
Delving deeper into the album, Norlindh explains: “I imagined my album as if it had been written by a dream songwriting team: John Williams conducting the symphony, Jim Steinman leading the choirs, Martin L. Gore crafting unexpected synth harmonies, Michael Jackson adding percussive magic, Timbaland laying inventive beats, Andrew Lloyd Webber weaving storytelling melodies, Max Martin crafting irresistible hooks, Muse embracing fearless extravagance, and Lady Gaga able to topline any vocal style.”
