Pool Club Share Charming Indie Gem ‘Changing Tides’

We were mistaken about Pool Club; at first glance, their moniker seemed like a reference to a pool full of water, perhaps a reminder of their coastal upbringings. Instead, the British outfit references one of their favourite post-studio activities, the game of pool, a passionate and playful hint at the many days spent writing and recording. It’s good for bonding too, we’d say, and judging by their latest effort, ‘Changing Tides’, it’s clear that Pool Club have found a common formula that works well.

Drawing from quintessential indie goodness with eclectic flair, the Kent-based group doesn’t certainly seek to reinvent the wheel. Instead, they perfect it, crafting a slick, euphoric sound that’s also elegant and evocative, a blend of shiny guitars and functional keyboards all at the service of the band’s lead vocals. Fronted by founding members Eliot and Kieron, both serving on guitar and vocals, Pool Club then includes Seb on bass, Will on keys and Jon on drums.

Threading the fine line between indie rock and indie pop, Pool Club certainly knows how to write a good song, and we’d be keen to say that’s all that matters. ‘Changing Tides’ feels heartwarming, nostalgic, and dreamy, all packed with familiar and relatable lyricism. As upcoming bands go, Pool Club have all the right cards to connect with a large audience. We suspect it’s just a matter of time.
