James Harries Embraces Vulnerability in Evocative Album ‘Love & Desire’

We truly appreciate the ethos behind ‘Love & Desire’. Embracing imperfection and embodying a wholesome, human-driven character, the album is the result of a bold act of artistic surrender. You see, Prague-based musician and songwriter James Harries was working on a rather polished pop record when his son reminded him of the correlation between beauty and imperfection. Suddenly, Harries understood: music must come from an authentic, vulnerable place, a lesson that’s forgotten often enough by almost everyone.

Following such a potent realisation, James scrapped his previous work and invited a bunch of friends for a three-day impromptu recording session. ‘Love & Desire’ is what happens after, a collection of friendly, meaningful and relatable material, songs that actually have something to say, songs that easily connect with anyone keen to listen. We love how Harries sort of set limits for himself; creativity often flourishes when constrained.

Born in Manchester, James Harries pens an emotionally elegant album, a slice of acoustic pop, folk and indie goodness, with gentle guitars and heartwarming piano at its forefront. Harries’s hypnotic, nostalgic vocals seal the deal, delivering lovable songwriting and inspired melodies. As the talented creative explains: “This album came from letting go. We didn’t chase perfection, we just hit record and trusted the songs to find their shape.”
