Haara Navigate Eclectic, Psychedelic Waters in Latest Album ‘Lambs’

During treacherous times, humans often strive for stability and safety; they ground themselves in whatever cathartic endeavour they can find. Work, art, political activism… it all plays a role in giving us a sense of purpose and a long-term view on an uncertain future. In the case of Swiss creatives Haara, such a role is played by their eclectic, hypnotic music, as they search to ground themselves into a deeper consciousness, one that’s supported by a wealth of world rhythms and unconventional instruments.

In a way, Haara seeks to connect with their roots, seeking to connect with the land and with a heightened sense of community; values that we seem to have lost today. Yet, one can find them in incredibly vivid pieces such as ‘Lambs’. The title track of Haara’s latest album, the song finds its foundational quality in an inventive mixture of African and Caribbean grooves, introspective vocals and unconventional instrumentation. The listening experience is rather otherworldly, with what we could only describe as kaleidoscopic goodness with a distinct psychedelic character.

It’s material that aids escapism, a song made to reflect, but not in the conventional sense. One should briefly lose themselves in it, and in doing so, connect with their deepest self. Delving into the album as a whole, Haara explains: “‘LAMBS’ is not a concept album, but each song tells a story that can be connected to the next, forming a loose narrative journey. The record is accessible to newcomers to world music, while offering layers of depth for attentive listeners.”
