Ivelisse del Carmen Celebrates Authenticity in Honest Piece ‘Sin Filtro’

There’s always been a deep layer of eclecticism in Ivelisse del Carmen’s striking artistic outlook. Debuting earlier this year with ‘Las Mariposas’, then followed by ‘An Ocean In Between’, the Puerto Rican, London-based songstress is often seen delving into a charmingly elegant blend of Caribbean rhythms, gentle pop songwriting, and deep classical roots, making for a listening experience that’s bold, curious, and packed with a keen sense of wonder. Today, Ivelisse returns with her latest effort, ‘Sin Filtro’.

Moving onto reggaeton territories, yet keeping it classy, ‘Sin Filtro’ finds its aural identity within unmistakable dance-inducing rhythms, Flamenco-flavoured guitars, and del Carmen’s nuanced, cathartic vocals, here used to deliver incredibly personal and intimate lyricism. Drawing a parallel between reggaeton’s negative connotations in her native Puerto Rico (at least back in the day) and the willingness to stay true to herself, the rising creative crafts a piece that transcends its sonic limits, becoming a cathartic tool for growth and emotive release.

As del Carmen eloquently explains: “In 90s Puerto Rico, reggaeton was often censored or criticised. This song is about reclaiming it on my own terms. It’s also about finding the courage to be honest, even when it feels messy.” ‘Sin Filtro’ features once again collaborator and award-winning producer Paul Stanborough.
