‘Burn (Me Down)’ marks our point of entry into Re:um’s nuanced, cathartic aural universe. In truth, we are rather late on this occasion, with the London-based musician and songwriter already boasting millions of streams across platforms. Known by day as Elliott Eriksen, Re:um is the perfect example of a project that managed to effortlessly connect to a global audience. There’s a good reason for that; championing the fine line between poignancy and sultriness, Eriksen’s music is often dreamy, introspective and intimate; at times, soothing too.
Simply, it’s a heartwarming and comfy slice of elegance in a complex world. Elliott’s stunningly dynamic vocals help to further his artistic cause. Anyway, we digress; getting back to ‘Burn (Me Down)’, it’s interesting to observe Re:um shifting into slow-paced soulful territories, once again accompanied by his feathery, sharp guitar and wholesome lyricism. Laidback and lush, the single will certainly result in another glorious chapter in the British artist’s long career.
Focusing on the song’s lyricism, Re:um eloquently explains: “This track centers around burnout, caused by one’s own unrelenting drive to evolve and improve at the expense of enjoying the journey and being present. Ironically, making this song was contributing to said burnout, but felt worthwhile. Although it feels this way almost every time I toil over every last detail of a track late into many consecutive nights.”
