It’s been a fierce 2025 for Alwyn Morrison; we should know. After giving us a taste of his artistry through carefully crafted singles, the New York City-based creative has now shared a larger slice of his eclectic musical work, a hypnotic EP that constantly oscillates between introspection and fierceness. ‘Heartsplit’ is exactly that, and more. Packing six wonderful offerings, the record starts with the uplifting, roaring gem ‘A Mile A Minute’, dragging us all in Morrison’s relatable lyricism and melodic vocals.
‘The City’ follows up with a certain early ’90s flair, blending rock and pop with incredible ease. One of the aforementioned past singles, the song is one of our favourite episodes on the EP. ‘Chained’, previously a single too, delves into ballad-esque territories, unveiling a more soothing, gentle and emotive side of the American creative. ‘Lenox Hill’ maintains the gloomy, poignant atmosphere, this time around with a certain power pop allure and electronic influences.
‘Turn All The Lights On’ finds its way back to uplifting, energetic and carefree material, yet still focused on romantic troubles and simple, familiar songwriting. Melodies are incredibly memorable and anthemic, a feature that shines a light on Morrison’s dynamic, luscious vocals and elegant delivery. ‘Maybe in Another World’ closes the EP in acoustic fashion, saying farewell with a heartwarming, chill song that’s comfortable and loving.
