A personal and unique effort, ‘DREAMS’ feels incredibly introspective and meaningful, despite its short length. Clocking in at just over one minute, the piece draws from Lea Anderson’s personal experience, embracing songwriting as a cathartic tool to process painful emotions and challenging memories. Such a stunning record feels evocative and hypnotic, drenched in a luscious, elegant production that’s partly cinematic and partly fairy-coded.
Hailing from Los Angeles, Anderson teamed up with Californian producer Jack Perry, giving the track a well-deserved aural livery. Moving at a slow pace, ‘DREAMS’ features a tapestry of soundscapes and light percussions, allowing Anderson’s precious, nuanced vocals to completely dominate the listening experience. A charming clock sample gives the song a striking sense of urgency while delivering a lullaby-like charm.
As Anderson eloquently explains: “I did a lot of deep healing towards the end of 2023. There was one event in my life that I was having issues forgiving myself for. I leaned into musicality, and I wrote DREAMS. Although I tried to write more, one verse was all I could give. So I accepted it for what it was: short and sweet. Many people advised me to make it longer, but this song was meant to be as it is. One minute.”
