The keen reader will certainly remember talented creative Kristen Castro. Featuring ‘Summer Rain’ earlier this summer, we proudly celebrated the track as “an uplifting, charismatic nugget of hope and resilience”. We stand by our words; Castro’s artistic output is especially meaningful and introspective, a slice of unfiltered, authentic goodness with incredible musicianship behind it. As teased, Kristen’s album ‘Capricorn Baby’ has been released on August 29th, a nine-track wonder threading the fine line between hope and nostalgia.
Moreover, the LP has been recorded and produced by Castro herself, showcasing her deep commitment to the craft. Based in Nashville but originally from Southern California, Kristen has been in the industry for years, first as a member of Maybe April, and then as a solo artist and thoughtful collaborator. With ‘Capricorn Baby’ out in the world, we can finally say that Castro is first and foremost an inspired individual with a clear vision for her art. We understand and respect how her journey so far has been driven by the willingness to change and find her true self.
This works on a personal level, emboldened by her Queer ethos and Latinx origins, but also especially on a musical level, with Castro not settling on a specific identity for her project, instead letting her songwriting speak for itself. Guitar is a big part of the album, too, as one would expect. Delving deeper into ‘Capricorn Baby’, the American artist explains: “This album is my way of honouring growth. It’s a celebration of learning to trust myself creatively, personally, and spiritually. Every note, every lyric is a piece of me.”
