Anne Bennett Returns with ‘Electric Skin’

We first came across mysterious songstress Anne Bennett back in May, featuring ‘Borrowed Skin’ and praising it as “threading the fine line between existential doom and euphoric melancholia”. Yet, that seems not to have been the status quo. Hailing from the infamous ‘Witch City’ of Salem, Massachusetts, Bennett doesn’t freeze on a single aural formula, instead navigating the decadent, gloomy path towards musical satisfaction. ‘Electric Skin’ is the perfect evidence of that.

Leaving behind gothic new wave influences, Anne now focuses on a slightly more expansive and cinematic brand of synth-powered pop, still carrying a strong nostalgic flair and lush dark-wave guitars. Yet, it’s in the song’s lyrics that Bennett’s creative vision truly comes to fruition. As she explains: “a dark, 80s-inspired synthpop/synthwave confession that dives into the twisted spaces between lust, emotional disconnection, and fantasy.”

‘Electric Skin’ features production and mixing by Matt McJunkins (A Perfect Circle).
