Okayden and Polybit Team Up on ‘Sugar Water (Remix)’

Okayden is rather honest and adamant about the authenticity permeating his artistic endeavours. “I make music that I enjoy listening to, and if you do too, that’s just an extra bonus”, he playfully explains. That’s an ethos we can get behind, especially when it translates into cathartic musical euphoria. A talented producer, Okayden emerges from Melbourne with a distinct blend of electronica and cinematic allure, making for a catalogue that’s eclectic and vibrant. If you compare 2021’s ‘Melancholy’ to 2024’s ‘Sugar Water’, you’ll instantly understand what we are referring to.

A collaboration with Sydney-based songstress VRDA, the aforementioned ‘Sugar Water’ is now given a shiny and hard-hitting new livery, with fellow producer Polybit remixing the track in true liquid drum & bass fashion. Moving what was previously a deeply crepuscular, introspective piece into bolder and punchier territories, the new remix makes ‘Sugar Water’ an absolute standout, a hypnotic record that’s a joy to listen to.

Delving deeper into the collaboration with Polybit, Okayden explains: “The original did fairly well on streaming for our size at the time, so while I was working on a remix album of my last EP, I reached out to Polybit. While he was listening, he went through the rest of my catalogue and really liked ‘Sugar Water’ and offered to do a remix on that, which we were both super keen about.”
