We are glad to have Spoonr back. Boasting a nostalgic pop-punk ethos with a touch of Britpop thrown in for good measure, the talented Glaswegian outfit takes us back in time to happier, more rebellious circumstances, managing to sound familiar, yet still contemporary. ‘Analogue’ is their latest single, a charmingly punchy and slick anthemic piece anticipating an upcoming album, ‘World B’.
The keen reader might remember reading about Spoonr last summer. Featuring ‘Spinning Wheel’, we proudly declared it as “a sonically upbeat and infectious little number”, a statement that could likely be extended to their latest single. Despite the similarities, ‘Analogue’ feels relatively more uplifting and playful, leaving behind the melancholic tinge found in ‘Spinning Wheel’. Fully embracing their punk identity, Spoonr are now focusing on no-thrills, all-substance aural goodness.
We are here for it! ‘Analogue’ does a good job of packing euphoric, hard-hitting sonic energy and more meaningful lyricism. As the band’s lead singer, Dudley, explains: “There’s an underlying lyrical connection/stronger observational aspect this time…with ‘Analogue’, it’s… actually a bit of lament for more straightforward times… there’s, maybe, a certain melancholy to the lyric which we hope comes across amongst the band’s energy”.
