We last wrote about Baltimore’s own troubadour Will Sims in October 2024, celebrating ‘Hello’ EP as the ultimate milestone of a purposeful, motivated career. Since then, the American artist has been hard at work, releasing a bunch of live recordings and a triumphal full album, ‘Do You Feel Alive?’. Gradually, Sims’ sonic imprint appears to have shifted towards grittier rock territories, while always maintaining the project’s anthemic lyrical charge and quirky lyricism. ‘I Gave It All For You’ moves in that direction too, a striking display of Will’s personal and creative growth.
Compared to who and what Will Sims was in 2024, the latest single highlights an incredibly positive evolution, with the project having improved in both charisma and production quality. The Baltimore-based hero sounds way more confident and committed, laying it all on the line with fierce vocals and melancholic yet playful melodies. We suspect that ‘I Gave It All For You’ might be marking the beginning of a new phase for Sims.
Teaming up with Grammy-nominated producer Tony Correlli, Will looks up to rock giants such as Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters, searching for the same unapologetic distorted euphoria and expansive aura. The end result is fascinating: hard-hitting and brooding, the record acts as a crucial milestone for Sims’ artistic development. He’s very adamant about that: “I wrote a song about giving up everything to be who I am meant to be. How I have sacrificed a lot of time and many relationships to try and be successful in music.”
