Weak Trees Evokes Grunge and Stoner Rock in Hard-Hitting Cut ‘Animal’

There’s a great deal of grit and energy in ‘Animal’. Drenched in timeless allure and old-school charisma, the piece takes us back to the heyday of grunge, with lamentuous, bold vocals that remind us of a young Eddie Vedder, among others. Of course, there’s also a veil of stoner rock in the record, but still on brand with the 90s character that permeates the whole track. Penned by Finnish outfit Weak Trees, ‘Animal’ doesn’t need much of an introduction or a meaningful reflection.

It’s a record that needs to be taken at face value: a stream of relentless rock energy delivered on a nostalgic plate by Weak Trees. What more could you wish for? Furthermore, ‘Animal’ is inspired by a strange, dark night spent in the Finnish forest, sparking the inspiration for what would then become an explosive, immersive grunge effort. The vocals are actually a tad psychedelic at times, adding a touch of elegance and spaciousness in an otherwise tight and gritty anthem.

Delving deeper into the song, Weak Trees explain: “This single is an honest story about the honest situation that happened in a snowy Finnish forest in the middle of the night. The energy of that night is loud and present in this track, hope you feel it too!” We sure do, and in that regard, the group have done a brilliant job of keeping things icy and intense, truly never offering respite from the dense guitar distortions and punchy drum grooves.
