Warwick Hadfield Gets Warm and Sentimental on ‘The Old River Knows’

Warwick John Hadfield OAM is an Australian sports journalist, songwriter and poet. He founded the musical group Dancing with Socrates back in 2020 and now he’s unleashing his debut solo single ‘The Old River Knows’. Teaming up with legendary musicians (and long-term friends) Sam See, Lindsay Field, and Glyn Mason, Hadfield proceeds to assemble a country-tinged, acoustic-rock beauty. Rich, warm, and sentimental songwriting meets punctilious musicianship, creating a tune that will undoubtedly appeal to the older generation while at the same time offering up something fresh and exciting for the new.

It’s not often that an artist gets down to making music at this stage in their life. Hadfield worked as a sports journalist on radio and in print for over fifty years! “I have been involved in music over the years,” he says. “Now semi-retired, there has been time to concentrate on songwriting”. If that’s not inspirational, I don’t know what is.

Using his wealthy linguistic expertise, ‘The Old River Knows’ showcases Hadfield’s exceptional storytelling talents. See, Field, and Mason’s commanding vocals and exquisitely cinematic music result in a heartfelt and deeply moving Aussie music experience.
