Valaura Return with Lighter, Vibrant Cut ‘Holy Rollin’

A rather electrifying and charming offering, ‘Holy Rollin’ sees Detroit-based rock outfit Valaura returning to the limelight in a slightly reworked lineup. You see, it’s been quite a chaotic year for the American group. After a rather triumphal start, including a few singles and shows, Valaura had to go into a temporary hiatus due to internal issues, even coming close to being disbanded. Except they didn’t; after the addition of new members Abi (vocals) and Noah (drums), the talented outfit has then worked up the courage to return, with ‘Holy Rollin’ signalling their newly-found creative spark.

The piece is surprisingly elegant and poised, jumping from lighter sections to hard-hitting choruses and anthemic melodies. Valaura’s rock imprint appears to have shifted in favour of a pop-leaning, funkier imprint. We love it; taking a step back from their previous forays into prog-rock territories, ‘Holy Rollin’ will certainly go a long way in delivering the band’s sound to a bigger audience. Once the guitar solo hits, we are reminded of Valaura’s hard rock influences.

Delving deeper into the record, the American outfit explains: “It is our own personal anthem about taking chances and not giving up on our dreams. The last year had been tough on the band with setbacks and lineup changes, presenting uncertainty about whether we could continue. Not wanting to give up on our passion and our goals, this song encapsulates our drive to succeed and not being afraid of the risks associated with taking a chance when the outcome is uncertain.”
