While we can’t describe ‘Semi Skimmed’ EP with pompopus terms such as ‘life-changing’ or ‘boundary-pushing’, we can certainly tell you that it’s a damn good record. It’s an acoustically driven, old-school body of work; a talented troubadour and his guitar delivering relatable lyricism and wholesome alt-folk melodies. ‘Semi Skimmed’ is an EP you can count on. It’s not your Asian Fusion restaurant; rather, it’s your trusted, family-run sandwich shop. A place you can count on during the good times and during the bad ones. A place that won’t let you down.
That’s what Tom Cherry’s nuanced, evocative songwriting will deliver. Boasting heartwarming and vibrant vocals, the British creative crafts a four-track record that’s a joy to listen to; nostalgic and melancholic at times, uplifting and hopeful at others. ‘Semi Skimmed’ is a living and breathing offering, an extension of life itself. As one would expect, there’s a great deal of romantic theming in it, sparking the obligatory introspective moment in the unsuspecting listener.
Calling Essex his home, the British troubadour explains: “The Semi Skimmed projects were written and inspired by the last three years of experience. We wrote the songs to get people to vibe as well as feel more connected to their experiences.” Are you still reading? Don’t worry, you have permission to press play and let Tom Cherry take you somewhere else. Just give it a shot.
