Once again, a simple rule has been confirmed: when good people get together, good things happen. This time around, the good people are UK-based outfit The Boxer Rebellion and Dutch electronic duo Tinlicker. The Boxer Rebellion had a big hit back in 2013, ‘Diamonds’, a piece that has so far collected millions of streams on Spotify alone, just to reiterate its relevance over today’s music landscape. Well, the record has now been remixed by Tinlicker, with the updated title ‘Diamonds (Further Than I Ever Was)’.
There was a lot to work with; the original piece is incredibly evocative and meaningful, with its stadium-ready chorus that’s made to be sung aloud. Moving the track from its original indie territories, the Dutch electronic duo shifts it into a rather cinematic, electronic gear, infusing their hypnotising electro flair into Nathan Nicholson’s notable songwriting and lush vocals. Truth to be told, it’s not the first time that the two projects have got together to work on new music, with The Boxer Rebellion and Tinlicker having collaborated several times in the past few years.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the new remix, Tinlicker explain: “When we asked Nathan Nicholson to work with us on what later became ‘Be Here And Now’ back in 2020, this came from our admiration of his band The Boxer Rebellion. So, having the opportunity to work on a new version of their biggest hit ‘Diamonds’ feels like a perfect gift. A very good reason to release our first remix in more than three years…”
