Following up from June’s ‘Hollowed’, described by Mesmerized as “evoking a dystopian fever dream”, British songstress Third Girl From the Left has recently unveiled her newest effort, an intense and gloomy cut evoking a striking sense of urgency and emergency. Aptly titled ‘Tick Tock’, the record focuses on the never-forgotten and ever-relevant climate change, aiming to bring the issue back into the media spotlight.
A liminal and cathartic production provides the foundational quality of what makes ‘Tick Tock’ such a melancholic, gloomy piece. In fact, that’s become quite a common character in Third Girl of The Left’s catalogue (as ‘Hollowed’ also showcased). It’s perhaps a sign that the talented creative is fully involved in the controversial reality we are living in, and using her art to advocate for change. Part trip-hop, part electronica and part alt-pop, ‘Tick Tock’ does an incredible job of augmenting TGFTL’s lyrical message. Friend and drummer Mike Wood joins the record on production duties.
Delving deeper into the ethos behind the song, Third Girl From The Left explains: “We’re all guilty of not doing enough, it’s such a complex problem, but one that should be at the top of everyone’s priority list. We are becoming more disconnected from the natural world, yet we are a part of it, not a separate entity. We need more awareness and education of our impact so we can work towards solutions.”
