The Zaramutas Describe Our Failing Reality in Striking Single ‘Big Steps’

The keen reader might remember The Zaramutas from a feature we published last year, praising ‘Censored’ as “high energy, passionate, and dare I say even a little angry, it’s a fuzzy and intense record that will have you mesmerised for a good half an hour”. Since then, the London-based eclectic alt-rock outfit has followed up with a meaningful protest piece, ‘WATERMELON’, released earlier this year. Now, it’s time for The Zaramutas to kickstart the next chapter of their artistic journey, a task that’s been given to their latest effort, ‘Big Steps’, out today.

The listening experience behind ‘Big Steps’ is punchier and gloomier than the usual, with the talented duo entering hardcore territories on occasion. Guitar and bass distortions appear darker and striking, and there’s an overall sense of rowdiness and chaos that’s as hypnotic as it is melancholic. Taking a cue from the sense of unease towards a failing world order, the record embodies the fight for resistance and the willingness for change that many people around the globe are striving for.

Delving deeper into ‘Big Steps’, The Zaramutas explain: “This one is about movement, physical and political. It’s about taking the noise we make together and turning it into something that shakes the ground.” Mission accomplished! The project’s signature blend of rock grit and unapologetic activism is put on display once again, making for material that is sonically rewarding and hard-hitting, yet also lyrically meaningful and authentic.
