The Tennessee Werewolves Return with Anthemic Cut ‘ RISE UP’

Drenched in dark imagery and anthemic vocals, ‘RISE UP’ stands out as a strikingly brooding and vivid call to action, an empowering piece that serves both as motivation and a warning.

There’s a reason for ‘RISE UP’ sounding so hard-hitting and explosive. Drenched in dark imagery and anthemic vocals, the track stands out as a brooding and vivid call to action, an empowering piece that serves both as motivation and a warning. Behind it, we find a rather personal and meaningful origins story, one that involves Nashville-based outfit The Tennessee Werewolves and one of its members, Angel Ray. You see, about a year ago, the band was busy performing a bunch of live shows all around Tennessee, supporting the likes of Puddle of Mudd and The Marshall Tucker Band, among others.

Unexpectedly, Angel Ray had a close encounter with an Adderall overdose, a painful and devastating event that made her unable to form basic sentences, making it difficult to even recognise people by her side. Willing to fight for her recovery, The Tennessee Werewolves received some timely help from Rob Caggiano from Vilbeat, who connected Ray with Marilyn Manson’s sponsor. That’s when Angel was also able to count on the MusiCares Foundation’s help and support. She eventually made a full recovery, even receiving a well-wishing postcard from Vince Neil and his long-time girlfriend, Rain Hannah.

In a sense, ‘RISE UP’ marks Angel Ray’s return to the music landscape, now sober and with a newly-found perspective on life. As the group explains: “Rise Up is Angel’s comeback from hell.” That’s exactly how the song feels, with its gloomy distortions and challenging vocals. An electrifying, dark record that showcases all of the sonic power The Tennessee Werewolves have to offer.
