There’s a brand new pop-rock outfit in town. More precisely, in Brega, Netherlands. They go by the moniker The Meir and are debuting today with a hypnotic and slightly melancholic offering, ‘FREE’. That’s only the first chapter of a long story, as the group also gears up for an upcoming twelve-track album, ‘INFINITE’.
As we approach ‘FREE’, we are instantly reminded of British rock band Keane and their piano-powered indie pop charisma. The Meir appear to be operating in the same headspace, developing evocative melodic carpets and a steady, gentle arrangement. Lars Zebregs’ malleable vocals crown the track with unmatched elegance. Overall, ‘FREE’ is a joy to listen to, and it’s the sort of material that invites nostalgic reflection. Bo Bodewitz, Jeroen Kraneveld, Charl Dijkhoff, and Raf Jansen complete the talented lineup.
