The Fine Chairs Critique Our Broken World in New Album ‘Wait To Be Seated’

The Fine Chairs explore the many issues with our current society and the problematic state of our world. They do so with hints of wit and playfulness!

‘Wait To Be Seated’ is indeed a long album, yet it won’t certainly bore you. Packed with electrifying Britpop tones and nostalgic pop-rock melodies, the record threads the fine line between unrepentant guitars and catchy, mellow lyricism. You’ve got your fierce distortions on one side, complete with exuberant drums and a full-band backing, then you’ve got your rather pop-leaning melodies, here delivered with confidence and charisma by The Fine Chairs head honcho, Sebastian Teufel. Inspired by the likes of Oasis and The Beatles, the talented musician finds a sonic compromise that’s familiar and retro-coded, yet never repetitive or derivative.

Throughout twelve pieces, The Fine Chairs explore the many issues with our current society and the problematic state of our world. They do so with hints of wit and playfulness, making for an album that manages to remain meaningful and hard-hitting without being too heavy or melancholic. Not too dark either. Instead, listeners are met with gems such as ‘Strength and Hope’, uplifting and potent, or more laidback and dreamy cuts such as ‘It’s Not What We’d Call Heaven’.

Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the album, Teufel explains: “The contradictions of our time and the increasing irrelevance but also growing acceptance of right-wing political ideas are the main influence and motivation to write these songs.” We suspect a growing number of folks out there will relate to Teufel’s heartfelt and purposeful songwriting.
