The Del-Viles Share Gritty and Energetic Album ‘It’s Just a Kiss-Off’

‘It’s Just a Kiss-Off’ throws it back to simpler times, with a wealth of explosive and dry guitar riffs layered over euphoric drum grooves and a nasty bass.

At a time when everyone appears to be striving for overly polished production and uber-contemporary styling, it’s good to come across nostalgic, unapologetic heroes with little to no regards about modern trends. Heck, they are not here to give you a masterclass in songwriting: The Del-Viles are here to be loud and rowdy, and overall just incredibly charismatic and energetic. Hailing from Minneapolis, the group is guided by singer and guitarist Ethan Robert Ray, playing alongside bassist Gab Semansky and drummer Daniel Robert Collins.

Echoing the grittiest garage rock in existence, The Del-Viles have just unveiled their debut album, ‘It’s Just a Kiss-Off’, a playfully chaotic and distorted record that’s also hard-hitting and kinetic. In a sense, the album throws it back to simpler times, with a wealth of explosive and dry guitar riffs layered over euphoric drum grooves and a nasty bass. It’s quite a refreshing approach, to be honest. The Del-Viles are keeping it minimal yet functional, showcasing how much music one can still do with just three motivated musicians.

It’s also a great way to creatively test limits, as the American band have to continuously find ways to renew their formula, trying not to repeat themselves. That’s how we get slower cuts such as ‘Don’t Hang Around’, next to more uplifting pieces such as ‘What You Got’. Alongside ten bright tracks, ‘It’s Just a Kiss-Off’ embodies all of the down-to-earth vintage character that propels The Del-Viles.
