We wrote about German folk-pop outfit The Cumberland River Project not long ago, celebrating ‘Midsummer’ as “moving forward with class and charisma, slowly drawing the listeners in”. The project’s heartfelt, intimate character it’s rather hard to resist, with meaningful lyricism and relatable imagery constantly layered upon upbeat and brooding instrumental goodness. Recently, The Cumberland River Project has returned with their latest effort, ‘It’s Still Going On’.
A wonderfully poignant offering, ‘It’s Still Going On’ features a more sombre tone, yet still packs all the wholesome energy and charisma we have come to know the group for. Featuring young singer Daniella Goldfine from Israel and Ukrainian guitarist Oleh Andrievski, the song takes up a very special meaning, urging everyone to work towards peace in an increasingly belligerent world. Thanks to Goldfine and Andrievski’s first-hand war experiences, the single feels truly authentic and reflective.
Delving deeper into ‘It’s Still Going On’, the German creatives explain: “It’s a reflection on humanity’s failure to break free from cycles of violence, sung by those who are watching history repeat in real time.” Frank Renfordt is the talented human behind the piece, writing and producing ‘It’s Still Going On’ and developing it to its best shape.
