The Avelons Drop Vibrant Stunner ‘Follow’

If we recall correctly, ‘The Gallows’ came out last November, being in fact reviewed on our publication as having “unrepentant, energetic and chaotic flair to anyone keen enough to listen.” Marking what was a rather dark turn for the Newcastle-based outfit, the EP has so far impressed a nationwide audience, with The Avelons conquering the attention of notable tastemakers such as BBC Introducing, Radio X and Clout.

Whichever way you look at it, The Avelons’ musical offering is incredibly sharp and raw, constantly oscillating between indie euphoria and alt-rock punch. ‘Follow’ marks the group’s return, a single that partly borrows the haunting baggage of their previous EP, yet it tries to look forward with a decisively more emotional flair, a direction that we truly love; the guitar-laden outro is super vibrant and introspective, even cinematic, one could say.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, The Avelons explain: “Have you ever felt like the people who matter most are suddenly pulling in the opposite direction? That uneasy feeling of clashing with someone you were once perfectly in sync with, the sense of being cast as the villain before all sides of the story have been told: yours, theirs, and the truth. ‘Follow’ is a euphoric take on an anxious theme.”
