Tam Alawa Shares Honest, Wholesome Jewel ‘Lifeline’

A good song doesn’t need a flashy livery or expensive hooks; simplicity is often key. Especially if such a song arises from a position of authenticity and honesty. ‘Lifeline’ is the perfect example of that. Penned by British songstress Tam Alawa, the record is a stunning slice of alt-folk, pop-oriented goodness, a relatable gem packed with heartfelt, wholesome lyricism and smooth melodies. Drawing from personal experience, Alawa executes a post-mortem of a past relationship, delving deep into the intricacies of human behaviours and the many feelings that surround them.

Co-written with Rosie Doonan, the song feels rather soulful and nuanced, especially given the collaborative, live-take recording ethos that inspired the record. This makes ‘Lifeline’ a unique endeavour, sprinkling a tad of nostalgia and vintage flair on it. Tam Alawa’s charming, evocative vocals complete the sonic picture, commanding the listener’s attention from the first line. Overall, this is an ‘easy’ song to digest, a rather positive trait that signals its quality to speak to our inner consciousness.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the ‘Lifeline’, Alalwa explains: “It was written with a very clear concept in mind—it’s about being in a relationship that’s full of love, but still coming up against fundamental differences that you just can’t get past. It’s that tension between deep connection and unavoidable distance. Sometimes love alone isn’t enough to make things work, and that’s a hard truth to sit with.”
