Suneaters Drop Latest Album ‘Suneaters V: Heroic Dose’

American outfit Suneaters return with the first instalment of their eponymous album series, ‘Suneaters V: Heroic Dose’.

Suneaters history is one that spans fifteen years, a period full of musical eclecticism and lyrical authenticity. Debuting back in 2011 with their first album ‘Suneaters I’, the American group then took up the habit of marking each record with roman numerals, collecting a series of long, guitar-coded albums that appeared as chapters of the same lyrical saga. In truth, there’s not so much cohesive storytelling, as much as a general tendency towards observant songwriting and cryptic imagery.

In that sense, it’s clear that Suneaters’ influences and inspirations are far and wide, and their musical practice mainly translates into a cathartic method of describing the outer world. ‘Suneaters V: Heroic Dose’ is the perfect evidence of that, a record that reiterates everything the project stands for. It’s their fifth album, as one might have noticed. It’s been a long time coming, with the previous one dating back to ‘22. Yet, Suneaters haven’t lost an ounce of musical fierceness, compiling an album that features a whopping ten plus twelve tracks.

From a sonic standpoint, we are in rock, grunge and pop-leaning territories, a blend of everything really, as it’s clear that Suneaters are treating their music as a lyrical vessel. Delving deeper into the album, they explain: “Stories about precise moments captured that are to be endured or celebrated. Precise moments of heartache, rejection, or disappointment, ecstasy, transcendence, power, aggression or love. A heroic dose of these things that cripple or teach. All on four sides. A square.”
