A record that benefits greatly from its rebellious, furious lyrical ethos, ‘Click. Swipe. Buy.’ showcases the observant nature of London-based punk rock outfit Splinter. Obsessing about the decaying reality around them, the talented band seeks a way to warn fellow humans about the dangers and pitfalls of an overconsumeristic society. Drenched in independence and moral integrity, the album could be framed as a manifesto, an angry, unapologetic scream towards everything that’s wrong with our world.
From a sonic standpoint, Splinter serves furious and relentless guitar distortions, hard-hitting drum grooves, and punk-inspired functional minimalism. The fuzzy, haunting instrumentals provide the perfect backdrop for the group’s sharp and bold vocals, usually busy delivering prophetic spoken words and dystopian, catchy motifs. Overall, being that Splinter is just a trio, we are rather impressed by the aural energy and fury they are able to generate. It would be interesting to witness the project live; they are probably quite a riot!
Delving deeper into the ethos behind the album, Splinter explain: “This album is a reflection of the absurdity we’re living through. From online shopping addictions to swipe-right romances, it’s all disposable. We wanted to hold up a mirror to society’s obsession with getting more, faster, cheaper and how that’s eroding something real inside us.”
