There’s been a resurgence in punk-rock acts recently, a phenomenon that’s greatly welcome, at least by us here at Mesmerized. Female vocalists have so far led the charge, with Texan-based Sophia Warren perfectly framed in such a movement. Hailing from Austin, the talented songstress has now unveiled a fierce, raw and vibey single, ‘GRIN’, an absolute gem. Wrapped in guitar-powered coolness, the record does a good job of blending indie sleaziness with warmer grunge tones and a certain pop relatability.
Compared to previous effort ‘Static’, ‘GRIN’ is less emotional and decisively more striking, a feature that highlights Warren’s charming, uplifting vocals, here delivered with nonchalance and unmatched euphoria. The track is the perfect appetiser for Sophia’s upcoming EP, ‘Adesso’, expected on May 30th.
Speaking about ‘GRIN’, the Texan creative explains: “The song at its core is about impostor syndrome and self-doubt. The idea that no matter how much effort I put into anything, I will never be good enough. This song explores that constant fear and the facade of what confidence can be. Ending with the realisation and determination to let it all go.”
